Introduction
Noémi szeredi Ambrus
industrial artist
Biography
Noémi szeredi Ambrus was born in Budapest in 1966. She began her arts studies at the Faculty of Drawing, and later obtained another degree at MOME’s textile faculty. Over time, beside her art and drawing studies, her own designs and unique processes unfolded, whose special atmosphere lies in the materials and techniques used by the artist. Her tapestries, textile pictures are meticulous works, revised and born from old, noble and forgotten fabrics (silk, velvet, lace, brocade), from the interiors of upscale mansions or from the lambrequin of sacred spaces. Their metamorphosis is by Noémi szeredi Ambrus, hence they live on in their today’s forms as artworks, however carrying their traditions, they are hiding in a skin of tapestry, a mirror or a ”textile painting”. The eclectic of these ethereal works is formed by the memories of the past or the spheres of science; their essence resides just in this modern and ”antique” fusion. Today, several of Noémi szeredi Ambrus’ textile paintings are worthy pieces of public and private collections.
„During the creative work taking several weeks, these pictures alter. During this process I discovered, and began to use old photos, used textiles, majority of which came from cast-offs of the old furnitures, old velvet skirts, silk shirts, purls, covers, collars. Hereby they revive and guard the mystery of their past and get enriched with new contents.” (Noémi szeredi Ambrus)
